LiNCSA holds Special Session with Membership

The Chairman of the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LiNCSA), Atty. Teklo Maxwell Grigsby II, has welcomed the idea to expand the scope of the Commission from dealing with small arms to all conventional arms.

Speaking at a special session to review the draft Acts to amend the Small Arms Commission Act and the Liberia Arms Trade and Transfer Act, Chairman Grigsby pointed out that the amendment to the Act establishing the Commission is intended to expand its capacity to deal with conventional arms and that the draft Liberia Arms Trade and Transfer Act is to domesticate the Arms Trade Treaty which Liberia is a Signatory.

He stressed the importance of the final review of both documents by the Membership of the Commission before onward submission to the Office of the President and the Legislature for enactment.

For her part, LiNCSA’s Vice Chairperson Madame Bennietta T. Jarbo, lauded the support of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) Voluntary Trust Fund which she noted funded the processes leading to the drafting of the Acts and reiterated the importance of further revision of the draft documents.

The Membership of the Commission is drawn from relevant government ministries and agencies as well as civil society actors working in the area of arms control and related issues.
